Faculty Grant Case Study
teaching and learning innovation
The W. R. Berkley Innovation Labs offered a faculty grant program for innovative teaching and learning projects at NYU Stern. The Leadership Presence Mobile App is a teaching technology tool created for the MBA management communication course taught by grantee Prof. David Purdy. In addition to administering the grant program and overseeing the project, I produced this video profile for a marketing and promotion campaign.
Faculty Grants for Innovative Teaching
The Innovative Teaching Grant Program supported faculty who spearheaded new approaches to teaching an learning.
We partnered with nine professors over five semesters to explore new techniques for using technology and the latest learning science research.
Each grant developed course content and research projects to enhance the learning experience of Stern students.
Partnership: We approached this program as a collaboration between the Learning Science Group of the Innovation Labs and the sponsoring faculty member. I administered the entire grant program. I also facilitated development of each faculty teaching project, provided resources, and ensured successful outcomes.
Prof. Purdy submitted a successful proposal for an innovative teaching with technology project for his popular MBA leadership course.
Based on recent research in neuroscience, the grant proposed to have students self observe at intervals over a time period to collect data about their own leadership self-awareness.
I worked with Prof. Purdy and an app developer to create a mobile app for students to practice the techniques taught in the course and to collect data for reflection.
EQ for Management: Leadership Presence
Grant project development
I guided the development process of all of the grant projects, and served as the facilitator of the project team for the Leadership Presence App grant project.
I was responsible for establishing the evidence based learning principles and for working with the professor to set learning outcome goals for the project.
I sourced and oversaw the business relationship with a prominent full service mobile and web app development company who I contracted for NYU to develop a suite of apps for the Labs.
I managed the communication between the faculty and developer, approved all learning design aspects of the project through the roll out, and managed the data driven revision and iteration of the app over three semesters.
